Performance FAQs

Question: I am noticing that when I am typing into Navgar chat, it is incredibly slow on either the Web Application or in my Chrome browser. Why is this happening and how can I fix this?

The slowness is more than likely occurring as the result of too many tabs open respective to your browser. Our suggestion is to first close some open chrome tabs and restart your instance of Navgar, either in browser or via the Web Application. If the issue persists, please reach out and let us know.

Question: On a related note, I am experiencing some sluggishness, not just with Navgar, but with other applications as well. Any idea what's going on?

Whether your computer feels sluggish or you want to optimize performance, identifying applications draining your processor power is crucial. Here's how to easily do it on both PC and Mac:

On PC:

1. Task Manager:

Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and select Task Manager.

Click the "CPU" column header to sort applications by their processor usage.

Applications at the top are consuming the most resources.

2. Performance Monitor:

Search for "perfmon" in the Start menu and launch Performance Monitor.

Expand "Performance" and double-click "CPU".

In the graph and table, identify processes with high CPU usage percentages.

On Mac:

1. Activity Monitor:

Open Finder and click Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.

Click the "CPU %" column header to sort applications by their processor usage.

Applications at the top are consuming the most resources.

2. iStat Menus (Optional):

This third-party app offers a detailed menu bar display of CPU usage, memory consumption, and other system resources.

Identifying the Culprit:

Once you identify resource-hungry applications, consider:

  • Is the application essential? Some system processes might naturally use more CPU but be vital for smooth functioning.

  • Are you actively using the application? If not, close it temporarily.

  • Can you optimize settings? Some applications offer options to reduce CPU usage within their settings.

  • Is it possible to use a lighter alternative? Consider if another application provides similar functionality with lower resource demands.

Additional Tips:

  • Close unnecessary browser tabs and extensions.

  • Update applications and your operating system to benefit from performance improvements.

  • Scan for malware and viruses, as they can sometimes consume significant resources.
